A Tour of our Room

Welcome to our classroom! We'd like to show you around.
This is our chart center. We use it during reading centers to learn different skills.

These boxes hold Mrs. O'Brien's books. Each week she reads books to us by a different author (like Kevin Henkes, James Marshall or Dr. Seuss) or on a different subject (like apples, autumn or penguins.)
This is our reading table. Each day, we will read by ourselves, with a friend and with Mrs. O'Brien.
This is our Word Wall. We will add words to it all year. We are responsible for knowing the kindergarten and first grade non-negotiable words. Our reading contest is also posted on the front. Each month we have a new contest. Each day, Mrs. O'Brien records the minutes we read for homework. (Shhh! Behind the curtain are wonderful centers like "Pirates", "Dinosaurs", "Princesses", and "Heavy Equipment.")
This is where we have our Morning Meeting. Daily, we work on skills such as days, months, dates, counting to 100 by 1, 2, 5 and 10, money, time, tally marks and weather.
This is our computer station.
This is our apple tree...for now. Each month the tree will change to match the season. The students will supply the new decorations in the tree!
This is our classroom library. We have 1,000s of fun books to read in our room!
There you have it: the most exciting first grade room you can imagine.
What a year we will have in this classroom!
