I have heard from several friends that the picture of my portable in an earlier blog looks pitiful. I apologize for that because our campus is really a beautiful place. The trees tower over all parts of campus, and there are different animal habitals located throughout the classroom areas.
It's just that it is That Time of Year: the big crunch to get everything done before school starts in a few weeks. At this moment, there are portables to level, decks to be built, sidewalks to be finished and floors to be waxed. I have no doubt it will sparkling and ready when the first students come running on campus on August 25.
Now, my individual room? I'm working on it! If you have ever read the book "Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten" by Joseph Slate, you may have been misled to believe that teachers show up a little bit early the first day to set up their rooms. I had to give my copy away. It was too distressing for me. I know most teachers work throughout the summer on different projects and workshops. And we have to unbox everything we boxed up in May. And clean, and paint and dust, and laminate, and run papers, and change bulletin boards and...you get the point. I love setting up the room each year and praying for the students that are coming my way. I am sure I will have a great group jumping up my new steps. When they get built.
And, if you haven't heard, our campus was named an Exemplary Campus again this year by the state of Texas. Only a handful of campuses out of the 100 plus schools in our district were chosen. We're thrilled and honored. The hard work paid off. So don't judge us by the ladders we are using to temporarily gain access to our rooms. Judge us by the smiles on our students' faces each day.
