The First Day of Second Grade!

It is finally the first day of school! We were not as nervous as most people because we will have the same classmates and the same teacher. But there are always some first day jitters.
To take care of them, we read "First Day Jitters" by Julie Danneberg. We talked about what made us nervous or jittery the first day. We wrote our "jitters" on a note and then stomped all over them. Then we put our jitters in a jitter jar. Guess what? They all went away! We went on to have a WONDERFUL day.
Later, we talked about how we are like a family in our classroom. (Reminds me of a song that goes something like this: "We are fam-i-ly. I have all my classmates and me.") We had a ball of string, and as we told one thing we loved about our class, we held on to our part and threw the ball to another classmate. When we were done, we made a big net and talked about how we could support and encourage each other throughout this year.

Drum roll please: First day pictures!

If you are like me, you notice that everyone has grown at least a foot since last May!

We had an excellent day. Recess was a little warm, so we stayed in the shade.

Tomorrow you may send afternoon snacks (we eat lunch at 10:45 am). And parents: YOU have homework tonight! Please return it tomorrow. :)

Thanks for entrusting your precious children to me for another year. We are going to have a great time learning and growing in more ways than you can imagine!
