Late Breaking News...From Friday
On Friday, we began writing a piece about what we liked about second grade. After only a week, we already had a lot to say!
First, we brainstormed. Everyone wrote one sentence on a Post-It note and shared it with the class.
Then, the Post-It notes were put on a white board for future reference.
We used sentences that began with words like, "I liked..." or "I wonder..."
After we were done sharing ideas (and filling our brains up with ideas) we went back to our desks to write our stories.
This was also made easier because we had pictures taken on the first day of school to visualize and remember the first week of school.
First, we conferenced with Mrs. O to make corrections. She like them so much she typed them! We glued our pictures on and shared them in small groups.
When sharing in small group, we take turns and listen carefully to each member of the group.
We make helpful comments to each other about what we liked and what could use a little fine tuning.
I think they really enjoyed each other's stories!
Aren't you glad to see we take our work so seriously in second grade?
When the peer editing was finished, we had a special surprise waiting for us in the Butterfly Garden in front of our classroom....
...a second grade Fruit Pop Party to celebrate a great first week of school!
A good time was had by all!
But wait: there's more! We had a special presentation this week from the superintendent's office: we are an EXEMPLARY school again this year! We were given a special flag to fly so others will know what a great job we are doing at our school.
