We are still collecting change to send with Ms. L to Belize. We figured out a strategy: We count out one dollar and put it in a square of our new carpet.

Our carpet has 10 squares in each row.

We had 5 rows of 10 (or 10 rows of 5 depending on how you count it!) Multiplication is so much quicker than just adding one at a time. We now have $172.58! (That is almost half of our goal.) The students reported where the change came from: under furniture, in the couch cushions, under the refrigerator and from a piggy bank! (Wow on that last one!) This small amount of change will not make much difference to us, but in Belize, it will make a HUGE amount of difference to a small child needing electricity in a school.

Every day, Today's Helper directs the calendar activities. Here, EK is drilling us on today, yesterday and tomorrow.

Today we had Centers during Language Arts while Mrs. O tested for fluency rates in reading.
Center #1 was sending a tweet on Twitter. (Our account is obumblebees.)

Center #2: We proofread the final draft of the classroom newsletter before it is copied and handed out.

Center #3: Students made postcards from their favorite places (just like Toot and Puddle). We voted on the best postcards. There was a 3 way tie for second place: EH, ER and IP. First place went to JA with his postcard from California.

Center #4: Handwriting! We worked on Mm, Nn, Rr and Pp today. (We start our letters at the top and we pay close attention to the lines.)
We are working on our assembly presentation. We will meet on the stage tomorrow morning at 7:30 am with flashlights. Please try to come listen to us read and sing about Holidays of Light!
