Science Investigations

We have begun a unit on organisms. Organisms are living things. We are focusing on plants and animals.

Today we observed and wrote notes about four kinds of seeds: pumpkin, sunflower, pea and pinto bean.
Next, we planted our beans and talked about what they would need to grow. We decide the would need: air, light, food, water and a place to grow. Good job, first grade!
We will carefully tend them and measure their growth. We wonder: will they have different germination times? Will they grow at the same rate? Will they all sprout?

We also have a "We Wonder" vase planted full of all four kinds of seeds. We wonder: will they all grow together? We will see!
See if your child can identify his/her type of seed.
In our Science journals we keep extra careful records of how our senses are used in observing things.
We write, draw, color and use lots of detail.
We will later take plans and make a terrarium. Do you know what that is?
We will also take water organisms and make an aquarium next week. Fish and snails are in the mail coming to us today!

Here we are practicing on our All School Assembly for tomorrow morning. It will be the kick off for the BookSpring Read-a-thon. Remember: be on the stage at 7:30 am, and bring a camera!
