Dividing and Conquering

Catching up: Lost Tooth Club:.O lost two teeth over the holidays, and C, E and E all lost one. J lost his tooth during Spanish yesterday! Also, IP and JM got the correct answer on Pocket Day math yesterday. JF was the Pocket King and BK was the Pocket Queen.
Today in math, we work on our division skills. We had four groups of 4 students. Everyone got 12 cereal "cookies" and 6 plates. One student was recorder, one was plate handler and one was sorter. (We rotated after each round.)
First, we had one cookie on each plate.
12 divided by 1 = 12 (I do not have a division symbol on my keyboard.)
Then 2 plates:
12 divided by 2 = 6
Then 3 plates:
12 divided by 3 =4
Then four plates:
12 divided by 4 = 3
When we passed out five plates we had a little problem.
12 divided by 5 does not come out evenly. Can there be remainders? You bet!
12 divided by 5 = 2 with a remainder of 2. (We wrote this r.2)
Our last problem was to pass out six plates.
12 divided by 6 = 2.
We read this book first to get a visual pictures of dividing something between plates.
For our final division problems, Mrs. O gave each group a big pile of cookie cereal. When the group could divide it up evenly between the four members and record the answer, they got to eat the cookie cereal!
Library Day! This little guy was left from the Book Fair decorations.
He bears a striking resemblance to someone in the library. Wonder who that could be....?

We have been asked to do an encore performance of our "R-E-A-D" song for the BookSpring Read-a-thon Kickoff. The Assembly will be on Friday, January 21 at 7:30 am. Mark your calendars to attend if you are able!

PS: The teacher is back and feeling great. There were no drones while I was gone; only worker bees!
PSS: Resolutions will be on tomorrow's blog post. You are going to be amazed (AMAZED!) at how well everyone did!
