Hot Off the Presses!

We have been working on our research projects for the last several weeks, and today they were laminated and delivered.
Each week, we receive a copy of "Time for Kids". (Old school parents: it is similar to a "Weekly Reader".) Our class has chosen the edition for third and fourth graders because our reading levels are so high. We decided to copy the layout of this familiar magazine for the finished project of our research work.
Each child had to create a cover with a full-color illustration, an attention grabbing headline, the date and the masthead "Time for Insects".
Inside, each student had to produce a report, a color picture off the computer with a cutline explaining what was happening in the picture, a black and white picture off the computer with student-labeled insect body parts, a short report on the insect's habitat, three jokes about the insect and some interesting "WOW!" filler pieces. The students had to arrange their pieces in a manner that was pleasing to the eye and would encourage the reader to look at every part of the page.
On the back, each student had to test the knowledge readers would gain from reading the edition of "Insects for Kids". The students included a title, a word search of words related to the insect (created on Discovery.com), and a multiple choice quiz with answers.

We will enjoy these in our classroom for a while, and we will send them home on Friday for you to enjoy. Well done, second grade!

IP lost a tooth in class on Monday! that makes 32 teeth lost in our classroom this year!

Today we took Reading Benchmark tests; tomorrow we will complete Math Benchmark tests. The Author Visit is on Thursday, and in the meantime I'm testing DRAs and TPRIs. WHEW!
