Packing the Day Full of Good Things

Guess what? Mrs. O'Brien is reading a chapter book to the class. It is called "Ramona Quimby, Age 8" by Beverly Cleary. It is not a first grade friendly reading book, but as a read-aloud book it is teaching us to listen and make pictures in our head. There are not a lot of pictures in a chapter book. In the 1980s, these stories were made in to a Saturday morning TV show, so we watched an episode on VHS that showed stories based on the chapters we had listened to during our read-aloud time.

We enjoyed watching Ramona break an egg on her head during "The Hardboiled Egg Fad". She thought it was hard boiled. Guess what? It was RAW! After it was over, we compared the book and the movie and listed things that were similar and different.

This summer, a new movie about Ramona and Beezus is coming out in July. One of the main characters will be played by Selena Gomez. Can't wait.
Drum roll please....Today we had a book release of "Meet the First Grade Authors". This has all of our "author blurbs" put together. The original copies will be placed in our portfolios.
Here we are looking through our newly published books.
We also enjoyed a snack while browsing.
Can you believe how well we can write?
These books will come home in the blue folders next Thursday. Look for them!
Today we went to the library and selected books about animals for the report we will soon begin writing.
Ms. Gooch gave a very interesting power point presentation on the conventions of a non-fiction book to help us with our animal report. And then we gave her a gift for Librarian Appreciation Week!
Everyone brought in a small snack and signed this awesome card.

Today we also had computer and read on Starfall and Tumblebooks.
Miss Hailey came by and listened to us read.
The weather was perfect during recess.

Life is good in the first grade.
