We Are the Champions!

Today was the presentation of the winners in the BookSpring Read-a-thon. We got to the assembly early to take our place on stage.
Our librarian, Ms. Gooch, gave us some last minute instructions about our presentation.
The entire school (and lots of parents and visitors) filled the cafeteria.
And we sang our best:
"Here at, here at Gullett, what a school.
We say reading, reading is super cool.
And we love it, found how fun it could be,
When we go to the library.
To find, find a book just for you,
This will be more, fun than you ever knew.
You'll be reading, never putting it down.
It's the hottest spot in our town.

Just grab a book and you R-E-A-D.
It's so much fun here when you R-E-A-D.
We love our BookSpring. It just gives us a zing.
There's an author out there for you.
Just grab a book and you R-E-A-D.
It's so much fun when you R-E-A-D.
We love our Ms. Gooch,
We want to give her a smooch.
There's an author out there for you:
READ!"

The crowd went wild! Our class won the award for most money raised at the school. We got a box of books from Scholastic, a gift certificate to the Book Fair, and a pizza party in the future. (Guess how much we won by? TEN CENTS!!! We beat a fifth grade class by a dime! We plan to invite them to our pizza party because we are good sports.)
But the most important part? Our money goes to put books in the hands of children who do not have books at home.

Representative Mark Strama addressed the crowd and told us his favorite book was "The Sneetches" by Dr. Seuss. (He loves to read, too!)
Here is our superintendent presenting our principal and librarian with the huge trophy that shows we won the BookSpring Read-a-thon for the entire district. Way to read, Geckos!
This is the fifth year in a row our school has won, so the district is giving this trophy to Gullett to keep forever.
Ms. Gooch led everyone in the school song. (The camera man is from Channel 8--be sure and watch tonight! There should also be a link on the district webpage to the performance and presentation.)
Here we are posing with the superintendent and Ms. Gooch (who was named a Legend for all her hard work!)
We went back to the room to look over our new books. We got 50 for our classroom! We spent the rest of the afternoon reading from our new library and planning how to raise even more money next year.
Thank you parents, relatives and friends for supporting our class in this read-a-thon. With people like you behind us, is it any wonder that we are all such fabulous readers? I think not.
