Monday Math and Writing

Today in Math, we studied plane shapes. These are flat shapes. We discussed triangles, rectangles, circles and squares. We counted their corners and straight lines as a class.
Next, we wrote review notes in our Math journals.
Wow! You should have seen our math work today! We did a good job with plane shapes. (Coming soon? 3D shapes!)
We are continuing to work on our "How To" papers. Today we carefully watched the steps we took to buy a lunch in the cafeteria. We came back and made a "story board" for these steps using pictures and only using a few words for description.
We took the storyboards and carefully wrote our piece titled "How to buy a lunch in the cafeteria." We start our sentences with words like: first, next, then, and then, last. This ensures that our story flows smoothly and in order.

Next up? The entire first grade is going to write a "how to" called "How to check out a book from the library". Can't wait!

Please remember to send a small snack/gift for our Ms. Gooch for Librarian Appreciation Week if you are able. We will need it by Wednesday. Thanks!
