Finally...It's Friday!

Ms. G read us a wonderful book in library yesterday called "My Teacher for President" in honor of the recent election.
As we were lining up to leave the library, J lost his tooth! (He pointed out it was one with a cavity, so that worked out well for him.)
Friday assembly!
Ms. R and Ms. G handed out Birthday Books.
E's birthday is November 11 (Veteran's Day!). He got a book for the library from his Mom and Dad, AND a book from his grandparents DD and Grampa Bill. It is not too late to order Birthday Books for your child!
Spelling ideas: L built his words with Legos, had a picture taken, emailed his homework to the teacher and she printed it. Don't you LOVE technology?
"I" made words from tiles and magazine letters.
R made a scramble online and then worked it out.
L used his words in sentences and then drew a comic book page.
B made flaps on her page and put the answers on the back.
Oh! Then workers from the district with ladders and drills came to hang a screen.
E made his words from cookie dough and then baked the letters. YUM!
C had a Thanksgiving theme going, and used foam letters to spell his words.
E wrote sentences that began with the same letter as the spelling word used in the sentence. Quite tricky!
C wrote his words in Harry Potter code and then de-coded them.
Oh. The workers with the drills are still here.
In Science we did experiments to see what would make a top spin longer.
We discovered several things:
1. Objects that turn on a central axis show rotational motion. (spin)
2. You need a force to start a top spinning.
The amount and position of mass (weight) affect how a top spins.
We found our tops spun better if the disks were touching, and if they were farther up the shaft.
We made colored disks to put on our tops.
We went outside to see what the colors would do when spun. Ask your child about this.

Remember: Student Holiday on Monday!

Shout out to JM's grandmother, a fan of this blog, for sending us a bumblebee shaped birdhouse for our room. My camera battery died before I could get a picture of it today, but we'll include it another time.

Have a great weekend.
