Dog-gone Good Writers, Too!

Remember those stuffed dogs we "rescued" from the Puppy Pound with our reading minutes? Well, we wrote stories about them using personification (making something that is not real appear to be real). We told our dogs' stories using first person narrative. (That means we used the pronoun "I" like we were the dogs!)

Everyone toured the room reading all the stories.
We wrote a word of encouragement on the cover of each book.
There was total silence in the room during this activity. The students were so amazed at these interesting stories!
We learned a lot of good writing techniques by reading our friends' stories.
We had an "ABCs of Texas" poster. We tried to guess what each of the pictures stood for in ABC order. Prizes were awarded for the students who answered the most correctly.
Look what we saw on the way to recess! Sports Day is NEXT Thursday! Can you believe it? Second grade is responsible for donating packaged granola or cereal bar snacks to be sold at Sports Day. Tickets are available next Tuesday through Thursday before and after school. The famous Baton Relay is from 1:15-2:00. If you would like to attend this famous Gullett Tradition, we would love to have you! (You may also check your child out early when it is over...)
Recess! What beautiful weather we are having. We decided the Groundhog was right: Spring is arriving on time.
Ms. G read us a wonderful book on the "Angel of the Alamo" in keeping with our Texas Independence theme. It was written and illustrated by local people that Ms. G knows.

Spelling test tomorrow.

We are enjoying reading "Caleb's Story" by Patricia MacLachlan. It is the third book in the "Sarah, Plain and Tall" series.
