Friday is a Fun Day!

We finished our Reading/Language Arts work early so we got a little "Free Read, Free Write, Free Draw" time!
Lots of creative activities going on here.
We love creating projects!
Group activities create interesting results!
Today we had a very special guest after lunch: E's Grandmother Extraordinaire came to share facts about her home state, Michigan, with us. She showed us a map of Michigan and then we located it on a United States map. (We thought it looked like a mitten with another part on top.)
She read us a beautiful book about Michigan, which included facts about Petoskey Stones. She gave each of us one of these rocks which is also a fossil. They are only found in Michigan. You can read about them here.
She thought today was Pocket Day and came decked out in pockets. We could have set a record if today would have been the day we counted our pockets!

She also had one more surprise that E helped her make:
Bumblebee Snacks! (Here was her recipe: To make bumblebees tear off a piece of a Tootsie Roll and roll between the palms of your hands to make a thin string. Wrap two pieces of string around a yellow Peanut M&M for the body of bee. Using a brown food marker, draw two dots for eyes. To make wings, roll out clear spice drop candies and cut out a 1/2 inch circle using a small cookie cutter. Cut circle in half; attach each half by pressing into the front band of Tootsie Roll on the body of the bee.) There were delicious. (She also had chocolate cherries for the teacher, who seemed exceptionally happy this afternoon.) Please come again, Mrs. D!

Don't forget the Silent Auction is tomorrow night (Saturday) at 6 pm with a movie for the kids. ( At the auction, I am offering a trip to the Alamo Drafthouse for two students and I am hoping those students are from our classroom!)

Happy Weekend to all!
