A Fantastic Friday!

Today we finished our unit on "Ready Freddy, the King of Show-and-Tell". For centers, we read descriptions of Freddy's friends and then wrote complete sentences about each one.
We made Ready Freddy bookmarks, and found the word "fin" (Freddy loves sharks!) hidden 13 times in a picture.
We answered Ready Freddy questions in complete sentences, and made sentences using exclamations!
We designed our crowns for the Kings and Queens of Show-and-Tell bulletin board.
Winners of the most persuasive letters to be first show-and-tell presenters were J and E.
The judges also awarded a runner-up prize to R and J! (They will present their show-and-tell items second.) Look in the agenda for a schedule and rules about show-and-tell items. There is also a list of rules our class made for speakers and listeners during this time.
After lunch, we were given an impromptu concert by G's brother, B. We think we should just move another desk into the room, because we think he is ready for second grade.
This afternoon, we had the dedication of the new greenhouse by our classroom. The money was donated by the family of a former teacher at our school. The sign honors a neighborhood man who voluntarily did yard work at the school for years and years.
Quite a crowd of special guests arrived including former teachers and principals from our school. It was a happy reunion time for them!
The greenhouse was given in memory of this man's wife. He was touched and honored that her work and legacy will live on.
This is a former teacher from our school who actually wrote the school song! We sang it for her with gusto.
We couldn't resist a formal class picture by the name of our school...this man was someone else who is remembered for his love of education and children.
E and J's Art Club objects were delivered to the classroom.
Friday is Treasure Box Day!

We finished the fourth book in the "Sarah, Plain and Tall" series called "More Perfect Than the Moon." On Monday, we will reread "Julius, the Baby of the World" to compare Lilly's thoughts about her new baby brother with Cassie's ideas about a new baby in the family. We will also begin reading "Flat Stanley"and will launch into our newest project featuring our flat friend.
Don't forget:
  • Going Buggy has been postponed until April 11/12.
  • This is the last weekend to read for the March Reading Contest.
  • Please send Dollar Store items/gently used toys for the General Store prizes by Thursday.
  • Check the schedule in the agenda to see when your child will present for show-and-tell.
  • Next week we start APRIL. How can that be????
  • Have a great weekend.
