Thursday

Today, two of Mrs. O'Brien's former students came by to do a survey. Many years ago, a little girl wrote Abraham Lincoln and told him he would look better with a beard, so he grew a beard. The second graders are surveying children at Gullet to see if they think Abraham Lincoln looked better with or without a beard.
Interviewing the first student. We can't wait to hear the results!
Every day at calendar, we count how many days we have been in school. (Today was 108 days.) Then, we figure out if we can count by 1, 2, 5 or 10 to that number. Our new challenge is discovering if we can count by 3 to a number. (The trick is to add the digits (Example: 1+0+8 and if the sum is divisible by 3, the entire number is divisible by 3.)
We also count by 60s because for every 60 minutes read, we get a commendation. If someone reads for 180 minutes, how many commendations would they get?
Here is our tally chart/10 frame chart. (This looks something like scratching on a cell wall the number of days since summer freedom to me!)
The numbers are adding up in our February Reading Contest! Next Friday we will have our Reading Celebration, so keep on reading!
Every day we work with time, place value and money. The helper writes the money amount each day.
Ohhhhhhh! We have a Mystery Reader coming in tomorrow afternoon. Here are some clues to her identity.
Mrs. Kolander, our counselor, taught a lesson on "Enemy Pie" today. Ask your child about it!
We wrote facts about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington today. I loved that many of the students used bullets!

REMEMBER:
  • Class pictures tomorrow morning at 8:10 am! Meet in the cafeteria on time for the assembly at 7:40, and then we will head to pictures.
  • The room mothers are taking up money to buy gift cards for our Auction Basket. Send your donations through the agenda and I'll be sure they receive your contribution.
  • Spelling test tomorrow! Don't forget to study.
