Who Let the Dogs Out?

We started the day out by singing Happy Birthday to Romi.
This was the day we have been waiting for all month: The Reading Celebration! Our theme this month has been " 'Dog-gone' Good Readers!" and we were going to get to adopt stuffed dogs out of Mrs. O'Brien's Puppy Pound. (For an extra treat, our parents sent us a snack in a "doggy bag" and wrote us a note of encouragement about our hard work in reading!)
Here is the Puppy Pound open for business. (Thanks to my sister, Renee, for buying all these dogs!)
We took one last look at the dogs to see which one we liked the best. The numbers are in (drum roll, please!): This month we read for 13,807 minutes (or 230 hours or over 9 1/2 days!!) Way to read, Bumblebees!

Everyone got to choose a dog.

We went outside to take our dogs for a walk around the track while we thought about the details of our dogs: What are their names? What do they like to do? What do they like to eat? What is an adventure that our dogs has gone on?

We wrote our stories in our journals. (Mrs. O'Brien is going to type them and put them into a class book.)

We got to eat from our "doggy bags" at snack and enjoyed hearing our parents' notes of encouragement. We even got to watch a little of "101 Dalmations"!

A GREAT time was had by all! (Don't you wish you were in first grade?)

This weekend's reading minutes will count for our March Reading Contest: "Reading Round-up". It will have a western theme and we will get to use our reading minutes to "buy" things from O'Brien's General Store.
