It was a wonderful Wednesday...but I bet tomorrow will be a terrific Thursday, and the next day a fantastic Friday, because life is good in the first grade!)

What a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
Wednesdays in February are "February Wednesday Warnings" during calendar time because "Wednesday" and "February" can be tricky to spell! We are very careful spelling these words.
Today's centers were Lightning Rounds: we had 10 minutes for each activity. At this table, we explored foods that George Washington ate, what time he ate the meals and how our meals compare to the meals of colonial days. ROTATE!
George Washington was very good at math. At this center, we made up as many math problems as we could using the numbers 3,6,2,1,5, and 7 and the signs +, - and =. ROTATE!
At this center we sorted the symbols that George Washington is known for (three cornered hat, first president, quarter, Washington Memorial) and the symbols that Abraham Lincoln is known for (log cabin, Lincoln Memorial, stovepipe hat, penny). ROTATE!
At this center, we compared life in George Washington's time with life today. We covered transportation (horse and buggy vs. van), lighting (candle vs. electric lamp) and writing tools (pen and ink vs. computer.)
OH! Look at all the dogs that Mrs. O'Brien's sister, Renee, donated to our Dog Pound! Your child will be able to "adopt" a puppy next Friday, February 26 at our Reading Celebration using reading minutes from this month!
Emma made a special flag to lead our class to the library today.
Ms. Gooch read to us about special Olympic moments.
New Centers! George Washington and Abraham Lincoln had very distinctive signatures. We practiced writing our names in case we are president one day!
We sorted out symbols of Abraham Lincoln...
and symbols of George Washington.
We explored cards that had pictures and facts about each president.
We fed the Old Lady president's names.
We unscrambled the names "Washington" and "Lincoln" and then wrote them correctly.
