AG was the final Queen of Show-and-Tell. She brought a book that her grandmother published showing the summer she spent with her relatives in Colorado. We were dazzled by the pictures and the story.

Guess what? Two Flat Stanleys have been returned! JA and IP got theirs back and brought them to school. (We heard that OC's may be late because he had lunch with Al Gore in New York!)

CD was our final King of Show-and-Tell. He had a fascinating presentation on sea shells from Port Aransas he collected with his grandmother. C had really rehearsed his speech, and we learned a lot of facts from him!

He also made 2 shell magnets for each one of us. Thanks, C, for these neat gifts.

Mrs. O had a show-and-tell, too. (Guest photographer: ER) When her son was 8, he was invited to trick-or-treat at the Governor's Mansion with then Governor Bush (later President Bush). He had a costume approved by his mother, but when someone else took him home to change he decided to wear army pants and pour fake blood all over his shirt and face. And here he is, getting an autograph from a future president of the United States...covered in blood. His mother was horrified when the picture later appeared in the newspaper. (Parents of 8 year olds: he went on to graduate from college and even took his mom out for her birthday lunch on Sunday--complete with a beautiful gift bouquet. Don't sweat the small stuff, parents. They seem to turn out OK most of the time.)

More measurement! We discussed the difference between inches/feet/yards and centimeters/decimeters/meters. Then? We measured things with real rulers.

We had to be careful to keep the ruler on the inch side!

We had to find items that were lengths like 1 1/2 inches and 6 1/2 inches. A tough job, but we did it!

Oh! Who is that in our library chair? That's not our librarian, Ms. G...that is our principal Ms. R!

Oh. Here's Ms. G. She read us a book about a cockroach by the author who wrote "Stellaluna" and "Verdi". We checked out books about insects for our research papers. (These books will stay in the classroom.)
Don't forget: tomorrow is an assembly. Meet in the cafeteria at 7:30 am.
