Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday

The teacher has been VERY busy this week, so this post will cover three days.

Flat Stanleys continue to come back to our room. EH's took a tour of Austin and brought each one of us two coupons for Icee slushes! We really appreciated them.
Pocket Day #14. (140 days of school? How did they pass so quickly?) We are collecting data for the number of pockets in the room.
We reviewed the Pocket Day totals for the year and discussed the data. The number of pockets has dropped with warmer weather.

Everyone was able to find the correct number of pockets! We have learned that combining numbers in brackets (just like in the Final Four!) is a great way to add 18 different numbers and be confident of the answer.
Another twist to Pocket Day: We broke into groups and graphed our results.
These graphs were generated and drawn with no teacher help.
Can you tell how nimble with numbers we have become?
Not to mention how well we work in groups. Way to go, Bumblebees!
RK's Flat Stanley took an exciting trip to Fredricksburg by way of New Braunfels.
District man attempting to fix our elderly a/c system. With hot weather coming soon we are hoping he will be very successful.
What do you suppose these students are reading with such rapt attention?

It is the book release of our Ready Freddy, King/Queen of Show-and-Tell story collection!
The caterpillars arrived in the mail. They were placed into individual containers with a diet of mallow. Lids with holes were added over tissue paper. When the chrysalises attach to the tissue paper, we will transfer them all to another clear container to watch the butterflies emerge.
This book is Mrs. O's very favorite book of all time. If you have not read it run, don't walk, to get a copy. Yesterday, she got to meet the author of this book...
...Kevin Henkes!
And look how he autographed our book: Wow! That's all we could say, wow!
Mrs. O took the afternoon off to attend the Texas Librarian's Association this afternoon.
There were some rather...unusual...displays.
But Mrs. M and Mrs. O got to meet the author of the Black Lagoon Books.

Two favorite authors in one day? Life is good.
