Caring for Turtles, Computers and Little Visiting Friends

Our day started bright and early with a visitor who brings a smile to every face...
The Window Washer! He has not had much of a job to do lately since the humidity has died down in the cooler autumn temperatures. Now he can peek in on his older brother through clear windows each morning. Thanks for visiting, L!
We have some new bunnies on the second grade ramp! Guest photographer R went and shot this picture of one of our new friends. (The other bunny was hiding out.)
In computer, we are looking for math in the real world. We downloaded a picture and we are looking for shapes found in the image. We also looked for math problems and recorded them. (Example 6 share windows plus 7 rectangular doors equals 13 shapes!)
This project will take us three computer periods to complete.
Today, Mrs. R held a turtle orientation for our class. We will be responsible for the turtles through the first of the year.
We reviewed the facts we know: these turtles are omnivores. They like fruit, vegetables and meat. We will have to add some calcium power when we feed them on Tuesdays and Fridays because sometimes they don't get enough calcium. (Who knew?)
Mrs. R let today's helper, A, climb in the enclosure to clean away some of the old fruit and vegetables. (We are to always use a sack over our hands to clean so we do not pick up any germs.)
Then, we took turns watering the turtle enclosure. It must be kept moist and the water pan must stay filled. (Mrs. R said she saw the turtles swimming in the pan earlier this week!)
A few of us walked away a little (or a lot) wet today, but that is what practice is for. Now we will have the turtle enclosure AND the garden plot to take care of each week. We are up for the task because we are big SECOND GRADERS!
