Guess who paid a visit to our room last night? Deskarina! And guess what else? EVERYONE had a clean desk. (Of course, we
were tipped off to her impending visit...)

"I" came in today knowing how many seconds were in a day. He showed us his math on a calculator.

Here we are in our new second grade t-shirts. Our color is navy blue so Mrs. O can spot us quickly in a crowd. We are boarding the bus for our first field trip of the year!

We all found our places with partners.

We buckled up.

In no time at all we were at the theater to see a special presentation.

The name of the play we saw was "Mariposa's Journey". Mariposa is the Spanish word for butterfly. We learned about the monarch butterfly's migration from Canada to Mexico in the fall. (The butterflies arrive just in time for Dia de los Muertos, which is a holiday we are studying in our Spanish class.)

Some of our class sat on the top row...

...and some of our class sat on the side. (It is a theater in the round, so there are no bad seats!)

Here is the star of the show: Mariposa! (And guess what? We found out later she is a baby sitter who picks up a second grader at our school each day. We will look for her at pick up today and see if we recognize her without her wings.)

The ride back was a lot quieter as we thought about the play we had just seen.

We got to eat our sack lunches in the second grade butterfly garden.

Mrs. O let us sit anywhere we wanted to.

We loved visiting with the other second grade classes.

And we loved stalking the butterflies.

What a beauty!

Don't forget that your pumpkin drawing is due tomorrow for approval. Here is an example of a pumpkin decorated as a character in a book. Can you guess the character?
