Last week, Mrs. O put us in Book Clubs. First we read the story/book three times: once to decode, once to comprehend and once for fluency. (We timed ourselves and the improvement on each reading was great!) Next, we came up with a group project that would include the title, author, illustrator, main character, characters, setting, main idea, problem and solution. (Whew!)
EK and J read "Night Watch" by Sharon Fear. They made a poster and had a great presentation.
I, O and R read "Pinky and Rex and the School Play" by James Howe. They did a very entertaining puppet show.
A, B and E read "Pasta" by Virginia T. Habeeb. They did a puppet show and surprised us with the fact that macaroni means "wonderful".
J, E, J and G reported on "Fergus and Bridey" by Oliver Dunrea. They did a play that included a boat, thunder and lightening and costumes. Very creative!
C, C, E and L (E was absent today) made a poster to explain the finer points of "Just Plain Fancy" by Patricia Polacco. Wonderful job, group!
Next, we had exploration stations of the props and books.
We enjoyed looking at the details close up.
Maybe this will be a book someone else will want to read.
We enjoyed all the hard work our classmates put into their projects.
Of course, there was a little fun mixed in, too.
I think this book looks very interesting to J.
Later, we voted on which book we would like for Mrs. O to read to the class first. She will read all the books to us and then they will be added to our library.
A good time was had by all! Thanks for all your creative work, Bumblebees.
