Kites, Counselors and Counting

Yesterday, we continued our math exploration with comparing and ordering.
We have measured length and area. Today we measured volumes. We rotated through four centers to see which container could hold the most cubes.
We worked as a table and carefully recorded our results for each container.
We talked about which container held the most, the least and was in between in total cubes.
Then, we returned to the front of our room and recorded everyone's results and compared our data.
Wow! Our Math journals show a lot of growth this year!
Yesterday we stamped our kites with Bingo markers. When they were dry, Mrs. O'Brien laminated them. We cut them out this morning (first grades LOVE cutting lamination!) and carefully tied tails on them.
We learned to tie knots. This can be a real challenge for first grade hands.
Have you seen the neat equipment in the gym? We are getting ready for our Sports Day next Thursday!
And look here! Mrs. Brauss had the Marathon Kids t-shirts on display. Everyone in our room finished their marathon distance and will soon receive a shirt of their own!
Mrs. Brauss said that we have practiced all but one of our Sports Day relays. Can't wait!
Here is the finished kite product hanging from our ceiling. Don't they just make you happy to look at them?

Our counselor, Ms. Kolander, came in today to help us figure out how to handle people who say unkind things to us. She told us how to go "fishing" to take care of this problem. Have your child explain this method to you!

Spelling test tomorrow...are you ready?
Meet in the cafeteria for the assembly at 7:40 am,
