Guess who visited our classroom bright and early today? DESKARINA! She found more clean desks this time then she did last time.
L won a medal for his expertise in working an abacus. (I apologize that the picture is sideways. I'm having editing issues and I needed to meet my deadline!)
Today we took another big step up in second grade: we are using glue bottles instead of glue sticks! (No one stuck to a desk...yet.)
Our math activity was called "Enough for the Class?"
First we counted the objects in a bag by ones.
We counted the objects a second time by twos to be sure we got the same amount.
We asked ourselves, "Is there enough for the class?" (We have 18 students.)
Were there extra cubes? How many?
Did we need more cubes? How many?
We had to show our work to prove out we figured it out.
We worked well in our groups and showed great cooperation with each other.
Library tomorrow (Thursday): please return your books!

We are working on our Reading Stamina. We are setting goals to see how long we can participate in "Read to Self" when we come in each morning. One of our strategies is to be sure that our book bags are well stocked before we leave each afternoon. That way, we have all the books we need when we arrive in the morning and don't have to spend most of our reading time looking for books. Today our Stamina Score was (drum roll, please!): 20 minutes! We participated in sustained silent reading (just like Ramona in the book) for 20 minutes without talking or getting out of our seats. Mrs. O rubbed her eyes several times to be sure it was true.

WE ARE AMAZING READERS, and our comprehension checks proved this to be true. Way to read, Bumblebees!
