Yesterday, E's mother brought in some turtles to introduce to our new turtle habitat on the second grade wing.

She told us many FACTS about the turtles. FACTS can be proven; they are not our opinions. We made a list of the FACTS we remembered:

These turtles carry disease (salmonella), we we should not handle them.
They are native to Texas.
They are called Three-toed Box Turtles

They are both female.
They are very fast for turtles.
They eat lettuce, fruit and meat.

They are omnivores.
Their heads can go in because they have extra neck skin.
They like land, not water.

They like to burrow.
Their habitat needs to be moist.
They have a long life span and can live to be 100.

They grow to be about 6 inches long.
Some times they hide in their shells to protect themselves.

Today we took our Science journals outside to make observations about the turtles.

We are still working on names for these two turtles. We had some great suggestions, but have not found the "just right" names yet. Any suggestions?
