Last Day of September

What happens on the last day of every month? Our Reading Celebration! We add up all our reading minutes from the month and celebrate the results of all our hard work.

Our first Reading Contest was "Busy Bumblebee Readers." Our total results (drum roll, please!): 20,661 minutes! (That is 344 hours or 14 days of reading!)

Here are the prizes that the top five readers chose.
These readers read over 1,000 minutes this month! Everyone did an amazing job, and we all got to choose a prize for our hard work. (Our new reading contest for October, "Reading Takes You Anywhere", starts tomorrow.)
Today in math we played "Collect 25 cents". We each have our own bag of money and we worked in pairs. Here are the directions:

1. Work with a partner.
2. Take turns rolling a number cube.
3. Collect the amount you roll in coins.
4. Coins can be traded for equivalent amounts.
5. The object is to collect 25 cents.
6. Record the combinations in your Math Journal.
Some teams were able to play multiple games. (Game variations: Collect 5o cents, collect 75 cents...)
Multitasking at its best: we ate our snacks while doing our math work because we had to leave early for.....
LIBRARY TIME! Ms. G read us books that showed A-B-Cs in unusual ways. (Ask your child to tell you about them.)
Here is an ABC book of New York City.

We had Bumblebee Moms helping in the library today! (Thanks Mrs. P and Mrs. F!)

Spelling test tomorrow!
