Wednesday

Hello, Parents! I am not posting pictures on the blog today because we worked on TPRI testing (reading assessments) today.

I hope your children were able to help you with the math homework for tonight! Everything stays home except the paper where your child shows the combinations of 10 from "Tens Go Fish".

Today in Social Studies we talked about communities. We read Stellaluna, wonderful book about a bat who is raised by birds. Stellaluna attempts to be just like a bird until she is reunited with her bat friends.  We discussed how our communities are different, and how communities are the same, and recorded this in our Social Studies Journal. In Math, we did some quick assessments in counting to large numbers, and we counted up starting at numbers other than 1. It is important to have the ability to begin counting up from any number. In Language Arts, we tried Daily Five centers for the first time and were wildly successful in our projects! The difference in second grade centers is that we can choose our activities and the order we do them in. We are learning what project needs the most attention (today's journal entry), and what should be saved until last (illustrating a poem). The students did a wonderful job. Ms. A.L. came to teach us our Spanish lesson. A good time was had by all.

Looking ahead: Open House is next Thursday night! Please plan to visit our classroom.

Part of my neighborhood is still under water. (The middle school at the end of my street was closed due to flooding today.) Glad we were safe at cozy in our second grade room!
